Multichannel adaptive signal detection: basic theory and literature review

Multichannel adaptive signal detection uses test and training data jointly to form an detector determine whether a target exists. The resulting detectors typically possess constant false alarm rate (CFAR) properties; thus, no additional CFAR processing is required. In addition, filtering process also not required because the function embedded in detector. Adaptive exhibits better performance than filtering-then-CFAR technique. It has been approximately 35 years since first multichannel was proposed by Kelly 1986. However, there are few overview articles on this topic. Thus, study, we present tutorial of with emphasis Gaussian background. We discuss main design criteria for detectors, investigate relationship between techniques, filters, summarize typical numerical examples, provide comprehensive literature review, potential future research tracks.
